Woodinville Repertory Theater Board Chair Letter

by | Jan 15, 2024 | Theatre News

Dear Members of the Woodinville Repertory Theatre Community,

I am extremely honored to serve as the Board Chair for Woodinville Repertory Theatre. First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the trust you have placed in me to lead this remarkable group. It is a privilege that I do not take lightly.

It has been both an honor and a privilege to work with and learn from Charley Blaine, our outgoing Board Chair. Since 2018 when I joined Woodinville Rep, I have witnessed Charley supporting the theater in a variety of ways, from being on his knees painting sets from the floor, to vehemently pursuing a location for the theater while serving as the board chair for the past three years. Charley’s leadership has been an inspiration, and I hope to retain the lessons I have learned from his guidance and to fulfill the role in a way that furthers the legacy of his timeless principles.

In recent times, Woodinville Repertory Theatre has been on a transformative journey. We have become a theater that actively embraces and upholds anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practices and have been working diligently to create an environment that not only welcomes but seeks accountability and change in order to better embody these values. As I embark on this journey, I want to reaffirm my unwavering commitment to these principles, and to the safety and well-being of our staff, performers and patrons so that every person who walks through our doors feels not only entertained and uplifted, but also valued and respected. Our commitment to diversity and inclusivity means that we will actively seek out stories from all walks of life, ensuring that our stage reflects the full, rich spectrum of humanity of the world we live in.

Theatre has always been a sacred space for me. It’s the place where we gather to share our most diverse and interesting stories, laugh, cry, relate and be transported to different worlds through storytelling. Theater is the place where we can all find belonging, regardless of background, identity or beliefs, and a place that serves as a living testament to the complexities of the human spirit. Theater has a unique power to bridge divides, foster empathy, and celebrate the rich tapestry of human experiences.

In 2023, Woodinville Repertory Theater re-established itself as a hub of cultural identity in Woodinville, providing the community with two unique and poignant shows, and participating for the first time in Woodinville’s Winterfest. It is thrilling to serve as an artistic outlet for performers and crew, and to contribute to the vibrant community of Woodinville.

Turning toward 2024, Woodinville Repertory Theater is pursuing exciting new endeavors to share with the community. We have three shows planned for this year and are working on education opportunities that will enrich the diverse artistic community of Woodinville and the greater Eastside. I invite you to stay tuned for more information on these thrilling developments.

As we move forward, I want to share that for each and every one of you, Woodinville Repertory Theater is a place you may call home. We are here to serve you, to entertain you, and to inspire you. Together, we will continue to build a theater that is not just a place to watch stories unfold, but a place where you can find reflections of yourself and those you love in those stories.

Thank you for being a part of our theater family. Your support and engagement are what make Woodinville Repertory Theatre the vibrant community that it is.

With warm regards,
Chris Curino
